The story of the Evangelische Kirche Bad Soden am Taunus begins in the late 15th century, with the initial construction of a chapel in 1482. Before this, residents of the area had to travel to Sulzbach for religious services. The chapel, dedicated to Saint Valentine of Terni, was built on land donated by Count Johann of Solms Münzenberg. This site remains the home of the church today.
By 1490, the chapel was completed and consecrated, marking a significant milestone for the local community. However, the church's journey was not without challenges. A devastating fire in 1552 destroyed much of the town, including the chapel, leaving only the sacristy intact. The church faced further adversity during the Thirty Years' War, suffering damage in 1622 during the Battle of Höchst.
In 1715, the decision was made to construct a new stone church, incorporating the surviving sacristy from 1510. The foundation stone was laid on June 12, and by September of the following year, the new church was completed. Despite having a new church, Bad Soden did not become an independent parish until 1852, with Wilhelmi serving as its first pastor.
Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the church underwent several enhancements, including the addition of new bells in 1777 and 1808, and a new organ in 1859. A significant transformation occurred in 1877 with the construction of the church tower, which replaced an older wooden structure on the east side.
The Evangelische Kirche Bad Soden am Taunus has continued to evolve, with major renovations taking place in the 20th century. In 1907/08, a comprehensive interior renovation introduced a new heating system and updated the organ. During World War II, the church suffered damage, losing windows and parts of its interior, and two of its three bells were requisitioned. Remarkably, one bell was recovered in 1947 from a bell cemetery in Hamburg.
Post-war restoration efforts included the renovation of the tower and roof in 1951, followed by a significant interior update in 1957. This renovation introduced new windows designed by Heinz Hindorf, a new floor, and a switch from coal to oil heating, which was later updated to natural gas in 1995/96.
