Haydn purchased the house from a widow, who continued to live on the ground floor until her death in 1767. The upper floor, comprising five rooms, was home to Haydn and his wife. It was here that Haydn composed some of his early works, surrounded by the tranquility of Eisenstadt. Despite being affected by two city fires in 1768 and 1776, the house was restored, thanks to the support of Haydn's patron, the Esterházy family.

The Museum Experience

Today, the Haydn-Haus is a museum dedicated to celebrating the life and legacy of Joseph Haydn. The permanent exhibition, Zimmer, Kuchl und Cammer, meticulously recreates the living conditions of Haydn's time. Crafted from a ten-ton marble block by sculptor Heidi Tschank, the monument features a bronze head depicting a young, smiling Haydn.
