This two-story building served as more than just a shooting range; it was a central venue for the Heilbronn Horse Market from 1770 onwards. As the city evolved, so did the Schießhaus, adapting to various roles throughout its lifetime.

The building even witnessed revolutionary assemblies in the mid-19th century, reflecting the dynamic social and political changes of the era.

As the city expanded westward in the late 19th century, the Schießhaus found itself surrounded by new developments. Its role as a shooting house diminished, and discussions of its demolition arose in 1929. However, thanks to the efforts of the Schwäbischen Heimatbund, the building was preserved, ensuring its legacy would continue.

Resilience Through Adversity

Despite the devastation of World War II, the Schießhaus remarkably survived the air raids on Heilbronn in December 1944 with minimal damage. In the post-war period, it became a hub of activity once more, housing the editorial office of the Heilbronner Stimme and later serving as the city library. Its grand hall, with its stunning stuccoes, was repurposed as a makeshift church and council chamber, showcasing the building's adaptability and resilience.
