By 1910, the church was nearly complete, with the exception of its two towers. The church was solemnly consecrated in 1911 by the then Bishop of Speyer, Michael von Faulhaber, who would later become the Archbishop of Munich and Freising.

An Architectural Marvel

Measuring an impressive 73 meters in length and 40 meters in width, with its twin west towers soaring to a height of 60 meters, it is the third-largest church building in the Palatinate, after the Speyer Cathedral and the Abbey Church of Otterberg. Today, approximately 3,500 of the original 4,500 pipes remain, along with much of the original technical apparatus. The historical prospect was also reconstructed, allowing visitors to experience the organ's rich, resonant tones as they were intended nearly a century ago.

The Bells of St. Maria

The bells of St. Maria are a source of pride and a symbol of the church's enduring legacy. On June 12, 1953, six bells were cast by the bell foundry Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock from Gescher, Westphalia, under the supervision of master craftsman Hans Hüesker. These bells were ceremoniously received on July 4, 1953, alongside the new bells of the collegiate church, in a grand celebration at the town hall square. The following day, Bishop Isidor Markus Emanuel conducted a solemn consecration of the bells. This unique chime is considered one of the finest works of the foundry. The great Christ the King bell resides in the right tower, while the other five bells hang in the left tower. In 2008, all the bells received new clappers to enhance their acoustic quality. The Angelus bell, tuned to C1, rings daily, while the full chime is reserved for high feast days and special occasions.
