Harbour Park

Harbour Park Littlehampton

Harbour Park

Harbour Park in Littlehampton, West Sussex, is a delightful seaside amusement park that promises fun and entertainment for the entire family. Nestled right on the beach and adjacent to a bustling harbour and marina, Harbour Park offers a unique blend of traditional and modern attractions that cater primarily to primary school children and their families. Its rich history, diverse attractions, and charming coastal setting make it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a day of joy and laughter.

A Glimpse into History

Harbour Park's story began in 1932 when it was established by the renowned Billy Butlin on the site of an old east bank fort and windmill. The park quickly became a local landmark, easily identifiable by the large roller coaster known as The Wild Mouse perched on its roof. This early attraction set the tone for a place dedicated to fun and excitement. However, the park's journey wasn't always smooth sailing. During World War II, from 1941 to 1945, the park was closed and repurposed for storage and troop gatherings. It even suffered bomb damage but was subsequently repaired and reopened, becoming part of the Butlin's Empire, later acquired by the Rank Organisation.

In 1977, a new chapter began when the park was purchased by the Billy Smart Circus family and renamed Smart’s Amusement Park. The Smarts transformed it into a family amusement centre, introducing a variety of indoor rides, including a hall of mirrors. The park underwent significant redevelopment in 1994 under the guidance of Gary Smart, who rebranded it as Harbour Park to reflect its picturesque seaside and riverside location. The new millennium saw the completion of major works, and the park continued to evolve, always retaining the Smart family’s values of friendliness, fun, and family entertainment.

Thrilling Rides and Attractions

Harbour Park boasts a delightful array of rides and attractions that appeal to children and families alike. Among the highlights is the log flume, introduced in 2007, which features a thrilling 6.5-metre drop within a compact footprint. This water ride, developed by DPV Rides of Italy, is a favourite among visitors, offering a refreshing splash and a dose of excitement.

The park's indoor attractions are equally enticing. The soft play area, which replaced the indoor artificial skating rink in 2009, provides a safe and fun environment for younger children to explore and play. The hall of mirrors, a nostalgic nod to the park's past, continues to amuse and bewilder visitors with its maze of reflective surfaces.

Delicious Refreshments

No visit to Harbour Park would be complete without indulging in some delicious treats. The park features several refreshment areas, each offering a unique culinary experience. The maritime-themed Galley Restaurant & Tea Rooms serve tea the old-fashioned way with real leaves, providing a charming and authentic British tea experience. The Harbour Coffee House offers a selection of hot and cold food, perfect for a quick bite between rides. Don't miss the frothy hot chocolate with marshmallows, a favourite among visitors of all ages.

For those with a sweet tooth, the Riverside Parlours are a must-visit. Here, you can enjoy hot fresh doughnuts, ice creams, and other light refreshments while taking in the scenic views of the harbour. These delightful treats are the perfect way to round off a day of fun and excitement at Harbour Park.
