Although the competition had its winners, the task of bringing the church to life eventually fell to Hans Roß, a local architect from Neumünster, whose vision redefined the project.

Construction began in April 1911 and concluded in September 1913, resulting in a church that not only served its spiritual purpose but also became a cherished landmark in Neumünster. Despite its initial grandeur, the church faced significant challenges during World War II. In November 1944, a bombing raid left the building severely damaged. The subsequent reconstruction, led by architect Fritz Hain, offered a simpler design, yet maintained the church's historical essence.
