By 1814, Dorp had briefly merged with Solingen and Höhscheid, only to regain its independence later that year. This era marked the beginning of Dorp's journey towards establishing a dedicated town hall.

In the late 19th century, under the leadership of Mayor Ludwig Baecker, the need for a permanent town hall became evident. After a series of temporary accommodations, the city council decided in 1883 to construct a new building. The Ohligs city architect, Otto Franz, who had previously designed the Gräfrath Town Hall, was commissioned to draft the plans. The construction, managed by contractor Friedrich Felder from Hilden, began with the laying of the foundation stone on May 23, 1884. By September 1885, the new town hall was ready for occupancy, marking a significant milestone in Dorp's civic history.

Architectural Marvel of Neo-Renaissance

Rathaus Dorp is a splendid example of Neo-Renaissance architecture, a style mandated by the Prussian Oberbaudeputation in Berlin for public buildings of that era. The two-story structure, with a mezzanine in the roof area, was constructed using brick masonry with internal timber-framed walls. After the dissolution of the district command in 1918, the building's purpose shifted once more. In 1922, it was sold to the neighboring company Richard Abr. Herder (RAHSOL), a renowned cutlery manufacturer. This transition marked the beginning of a new chapter for Rathaus Dorp, as it became an integral part of the company's administrative operations. Over the years, RAHSOL made several modifications to the building, including the addition of a new wing and the relocation of the main entrance.
