Originally, this site housed an abbey of regular canons, which was merged with the Affligem Abbey in 1120 and became known as the “Priory of Bornem.” The priory was dissolved in 1796, and many of its buildings were demolished. In 1842, the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady Presentation purchased the site and established a girls’ school. New buildings were constructed in the latter half of the 19th century, incorporating older sections. The neo-Gothic wing and boarding school were built between 1905 and 1907. Further renovations took place throughout the 20th century. Today, the school comprises remnants from the 17th to the 20th centuries. The oldest wing, once part of the priory, is now used as an office and meeting room, featuring preserved stucco ceilings, old oak doors, and a vaulted cellar. The neo-Gothic wing from 1905 serves as the school’s administration and classrooms.
