The Origins and Relocation

The design of the chapel is attributed to Tommaso Rodari, an architect influenced by the renowned Bramante, or possibly to Bramante himself. This exquisite chapel was saved from demolition in 1812 by Giocondo Albertolli, a Milanese architect, who, with the patronage of Count Gian Mario Andreani, orchestrated its relocation to Brugherio.

The relocation of the chapel was no small feat. Albertolli meticulously dismantled the structure and transported it piece by piece. The journey involved traversing Lake Lugano, traveling by land to Como, and then navigating the Naviglio della Martesana canal to Brugherio. The reassembly of the chapel near Villa Sormani took an arduous seventeen years, from 1815 to 1832, transforming it into the splendid St. Lucius Church we see today.
