Van Deurs was involved in the family business, Salig van Deur's Enke, which he ran with his brother-in-law, Andreas Classen. The business legacy continued with Jean Jacob Classen, who constructed the neighboring Classen Mansion and acquired the Stephen Hansen Mansion in 1795.
