The Hofpleinkerk, known as Gereformeerde Kerk B, was initially a cross congregation formed in 1858. In 2004, as part of the Samen op Weg (Together on the Way) process, the Gereformeerde and Hervormde congregations merged to form the Protestantse Gemeente Middelburg (PGM). However, declining attendance led to the decision to close several churches, including the Hofpleinkerk. The last service was held on June 2, 2019, marking the end of an era for the congregation.
Following its closure as a place of worship, the Hofpleinkerk embarked on a new journey. In 2021, plans were announced to repurpose the building as a care center, a transformation that began in 2022. Music has always played a significant role in the life of the Hofpleinkerk. The original organ, installed during the church's construction, was crafted by A.S.J. Dekker from Goes. A new organ, built by S.F. Blank from Herwijnen, was commissioned and installed in 1985 after several years of using an electronic organ for services. With 14 voices, the new instrument continued the church's musical tradition until its closure.
