His plan was to create a garden-promenade that would extend beyond the current square, offering stunning views of the Loire River and the industrial landscape.

Although the original project was scaled down, the square was officially inaugurated on September 27, 1933. Over the years, it has undergone various changes, including a significant renovation in 2012 by the city's green spaces and environment service. In March 2020, a monumental steel staircase designed by François Delarozière was added, connecting the belvedere directly to the garden set in the former Miséry quarry below.
