Oltremare

Oltremare Riccione

Oltremare

Oltremare, nestled in the picturesque town of Riccione, Italy, is not just a theme park; it's an extraordinary journey through the wonders of nature and technology. Spanning an impressive 110,000 square meters, this park is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of both terrestrial and marine species. Opened in June 2004, Oltremare is the brainchild of a significant investment of over 80 million euros by longstanding local enterprises, including Aquafan and the Dolphinarium of Riccione. The park's design, brought to life by the architectural prowess of G.A. Lorenzon and Busby+Association Architects of Vancouver, has earned it the Award of Excellence from the Association of Canadian Architects.

Adventure Island

Adventure Island is a paradise for children, offering 4,000 square meters of pure fun and excitement. Inaugurated in 2008 with a 3-million-euro investment, this playground is themed around Ulysses, the park's beloved mascot. Here, kids can embark on thrilling adventures, either independently or with accompanying adults, through a variety of engaging activities. It's a place where imagination knows no bounds, and every corner is filled with opportunities for exploration and play.

MegaGameLand

Set to open on April 1, 2024, in celebration of Oltremare's 20th anniversary, MegaGameLand promises to be a groundbreaking attraction. Located within the park's giant globe, this area is inspired by the popular TV program MegaGame DinsiemE and designed by the DinsiemE team. Families and children will be able to immerse themselves in a real-life version of the game, complete with giant statues of the characters and a host of interactive activities. It's an experience that brings the excitement of the TV show to life in a way that is both thrilling and unforgettable.

Planet Earth

Planet Earth is a visual and multisensory journey through time, taking visitors from the birth of the Universe 15 billion years ago to the dawn of life on our planet 12 million years ago. This exhibit is divided into four rooms, each offering a unique glimpse into the pivotal moments of Earth's evolution. The journey begins with a captivating film that introduces the creation of the Universe and Earth, followed by rooms where special effects allow visitors to witness the emergence of life, the extinction of dinosaurs, and the end of the last Ice Age. It's an educational and awe-inspiring experience that brings the history of our planet to life.

Darwin, the Rainforest

Darwin, the Rainforest is an enchanting glass and steel dome that recreates the environment of giant reptiles from the Cretaceous period. Visitors can wander along designated paths, experiencing the warm, humid conditions that once housed dinosaurs like the Deinonychus. The journey culminates in a walk through a lava-scorched forest, complete with dinosaur footprints etched into the ground. It's a mesmerizing glimpse into a world long gone, offering a vivid portrayal of life during the age of the dinosaurs.

Marine Areas

The marine sections of Oltremare are a testament to the beauty and diversity of ocean life. The Dolphin Lagoon, a meticulously recreated corner of the Adriatic Sea, is home to the park's bottlenose dolphins. Visitors can marvel at these intelligent creatures as they perform breathtaking displays, showcasing their agility and grace. The lagoon is divided into several zones, each offering a unique perspective on the dolphins' lives. In August 2014, the park celebrated the birth of its first captive-born dolphin, a 23-kg, 115-cm baby bottlenose dolphin, adding a new chapter to its marine conservation efforts.

Planet Sea

Planet Sea is a grand exhibit dedicated to the Adriatic Sea and its majestic inhabitants. This museum-like display features life-sized reconstructions of whales, dolphins, sharks, sunfish, and other large vertebrates, crafted from resin, fiberglass, and polyurethane. Supervised by Maurizio Wurtz of Artescienza and designed by biologist and naturalist illustrator Valter Fogato, the exhibit also includes a special area for children. It's a captivating exploration of marine life that educates and inspires visitors of all ages.

Natural Areas

Oltremare's commitment to nature extends beyond the oceans, with vast areas dedicated to terrestrial wildlife. The Falcon Area showcases various types of falcons, with trainers providing entertaining and educational demonstrations. The Farm Show Area offers close encounters with magnificent birds like the red-and-green macaw and the blue-and-yellow macaw, as well as lesser-known species like the sun conure. The Delta area highlights the flora and fauna of the Po Delta, including the endangered Adriatic sturgeon and invasive species like the catfish and red-eared slider turtle. Since 2018, the park has also featured a Wallaby area, offering a glimpse into the lives of these charming marsupials.

In conclusion, Oltremare in Riccione is more than just a theme park; it's a celebration of the natural world, a journey through time, and a testament to the wonders of both land and sea. With its blend of cutting-edge technology, immersive exhibits, and a deep commitment to conservation, Oltremare offers an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages. Whether you're exploring the depths of the ocean, wandering through prehistoric rainforests, or marveling at the agility of dolphins, Oltremare promises a day filled with wonder, education, and adventure. It's a destination that captures the imagination and leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.
