The upper level of the cloister lacks arches, with the ceiling supported by an architrave resting on double the number of columns found on the lower level. The capitals of these columns are decorated with grotesques and a rich array of figures, including angels, dragons, and mythical beasts locked in fierce battles. Above the capitals, a frieze of medallions runs along both the inner and outer sides of the gallery, depicting a variety of subjects, including saints, martyrs, monks, warriors, and biblical figures.
