From 1543 to 1556, the original San Pietro served as a temporary cathedral after the Genoese destroyed the old one. The current San Pietro was elevated to the status of Archipresbyteral church in 1684, marking its importance in the religious landscape of Savona.
Designed by the Savonese architect Battista Testa and constructed by the skilled hands of the Genoese Republic's craftsmen, San Pietro is a Baroque masterpiece. The church stretches 30 meters in length and 16 meters in width, featuring a single nave with a wooden choir and four side altars.
