The project included all new seats, a larger stage, an annex for dressing rooms, restrooms, and loading of props and backdrops, as well as an art gallery. The original walls in the outer lobby were retained, the terrazzo floor was exposed, and the auditorium was repainted. The theater was equipped with state-of-the-art digital projection equipment, a digital surround audio system, and new lighting fixtures. The outer facade was scrubbed clean, and the main entrance doors were replaced with replicas of the original 1937 doors. The total cost of the renovations exceeded $3 million.

On June 1, 2012, the Capitol Theater reopened its doors, once again becoming a vibrant hub of entertainment in downtown Burlington. The theater now hosts a variety of events, including Sunday matinees, live performances, and special screenings. The Capitol Theater Foundation owns all property associated with the theater and manages event scheduling, ensuring that the Capitol continues to be a beacon of cultural enrichment for the community.

The reopening of the Capitol Theater has breathed new life into Burlington's downtown area, with projected revenue for the area estimated to be in the range of $4.25 million.
