In 1981, the Casa del Cordón was acquired by the Provincial Council and subsequently ceded to the Ministry of Culture. This historic building, with its distinctive Franciscan cord adorning the entrance and its well-preserved coats of arms, became the perfect home for the museum. The Archaeological Museum of Palencia, as we know it today, was inaugurated on October 27, 1997, under the directorship of archaeologist Mariano del Amo.
